Preserving Your Loved One’s Memorial with Care and Respect
At Brightwater Stone, we understand that a memorial is far more than a stone marker; it is a lasting tribute to a loved one and a special place for reflection, remembrance, and connection.
Over time, exposure to weather, natural ground movement, moss, lichen, and environmental pollutants can affect the appearance and stability of a memorial. Inscriptions may become difficult to read, surfaces can lose their original finish, and memorials may require maintenance to ensure they remain safe and dignified.
Our experienced memorial masons provide professional headstone renovation, repair, and cleaning services, helping families restore and preserve memorials with the utmost care, craftsmanship, and respect.

Our Memorial Renovation & Restoration Services
Specialist Memorial Cleaning
Weathering, moss, algae, and lichen can gradually affect the appearance of a memorial. We use specialist, non-abrasive cleaning methods designed specifically for memorial stonework to safely restore the natural beauty of the stone without causing damage.
Our cleaning services are suitable for a wide range of materials, including granite, marble, limestone, sandstone, and slate memorials.
Inscription Repainting & Re-gilding
Over the years, engraved lettering can fade due to exposure to the elements. We carefully restore inscriptions using high-quality paints and gilding materials, colour matched to the original design wherever possible.
This process helps ensure names, dates, verses, and personal messages remain clear, legible, and beautifully presented for years to come.
Memorial Repairs
If a memorial has suffered damage through age, weather conditions, accident, or ground movement, our skilled stonemasons can carry out a range of repair services.
These may include:
- Repairing cracked or damaged stonework
- Replacing broken components
- Restoring ornamental features
- Repairing chipped edges and corners
- Reinstating damaged foundations
All repair work is completed with sensitivity and attention to preserving the original character of the memorial.
Levelling & Refixing
Over time, memorials can become unstable due to ground settlement or movement. Leaning or loose headstones can become both unsightly and unsafe.
Our levelling and re-fixing service restores memorials to their correct position using modern fixing methods and industry approved techniques, ensuring stability, safety, and compliance with current memorial safety standards.
Additional Inscriptions
Where families wish to add a further name, date, or memorial inscription to an existing headstone, our experienced lettering specialists can carefully match the original style and layout wherever possible, creating a seamless and respectful addition to the memorial.
Storage
if it is necessary to remove a memorial for a second burial in the same location, Brightwater an offer to remove the existing memorial and store it safely in our facility until the ground has settled and the memorial is able to be replaced.
During the storage period, we can clean the headstone, and add any additional inscriptions ready for re-fixing once the ground has settled.

We also offer ongoing memorial and grave maintenance services to help keep your loved one’s resting place neat, tidy, and cared for throughout the year.
